Copying an Item vs Creating from Scratch
The “copy item” feature is helpful in getting a head start on a new item that’s similar to an existing item.
Make a Copy
Go to Inventory > Items. Use the search field under Item Name to find the existing item. In this example, we’ll search for “Chess Club”.
On the far right, there are three buttons: Edit, Copy, and Delete.
Click the middle button, Copy Item. The item editor popup will appear.
Note that three fields identify this item as a copy: Item Name, Permalink, and SKU.
First, assign the item to a review group so it’s not publicly listed while in progress. In the Group Assignments field, make sure to remove any groups that are not designated as “review”.
Click UPDATE. “Done” will appear in green next to the UPDATE button when the save is complete.
Remove all instances of the words “Copy of” and change any applicable fields and description to suit the new item. The permalink and SKU must be different from the original copy. The item name should also be unique to differentiate from the original.
Once all edits are complete, click UPDATE.
Review the new item and assign to the final placement group when complete.
