Copying an Item vs Creating from Scratch
The "copy item" feature is helpful in getting a head start on a new item that's similar to an existing item. If there is no similar or old version of the Order Entry item, start from scratch by clicking + NEW ITEM and following the steps below (instances of "copy" will not be present in the brand new item editor).
Create an Order Entry Item
- Go to Inventory > Items.
- Use the search field under Item Name to find the existing item.
In this example, we'll search for "Chess Club".
- On the far left, there are three buttons: Edit, Copy, and Delete.
If creating a new item, click the top-left button, + NEW ITEM.
If making a copy, click the middle button (two-page stack icon).
- The item editor popup will appear.
If using a new item, the form will be blank.
If using a copied item, three fields identify the item as such with "Copy of": Item Name, Permalink, and SKU. Remove all instances of "Copy of" and replace with unique permalink and SKU; the Item Name can be the same as the Web Store version.
- Next to Where Item Should Appear, select "Order Entry Only".
- Click UPDATE. When the save completes, “Done” will show next to the UPDATE button.
- Next to Permalink, add prefix "oe-" for internal convenience.
- Next to SKU, include "OE" with the other identifiers.
- Go to the Standard Fields tab.
- Next to Web Store Department, select "OE".
If not listed, click + NEW. Enter "OE" next in the Name field and click SAVE. Confirm the new department is selected.
- Next to Small Image and Large Image, remove any images.
If an image is preferred, use the Small Image field and upload/use an image that is no larger than 100x100. Learn More
- Click UPDATE and review the item in the Order Entry module.
